How do I connect my Square account to Brushfire?

Before You Start

📌 A couple of things worth knowing before you get started:

  • Square is currently available for use with Brushfire in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, and Australia.
  • For US customers on pay-as-you-go or transactional billing plans, Brushfire fees are automatically withdrawn as transactions process through Square.

Limitations to Know

  • Square is only available in select countries. If your organization is based outside of the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, or Australia, Square is not currently an option. See the Payment Gateways guide to explore Stripe as an alternative.
  • You must connect your events to the gateway manually. Connecting Square to Brushfire doesn't automatically apply it to your events. You'll need to edit the Payment Methods configuration on each event to activate it.
  • US billing customers will have Brushfire fees auto-withdrawn. If you're on a pay-as-you-go or transactional billing plan, Brushfire fees will be deducted automatically as transactions are processed through Square.
  • Banking details are required to receive payouts. You can skip that step during setup, but you'll need to add your banking information in Square before any funds can be deposited.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an existing Square account to get started?

No. You can create a new Square account during the connection process — just click Sign Up at Step 2 and follow the prompts.

Can I skip the banking details step and come back to it?

Yes. You can skip that step during setup and add your banking information in Square later. Just keep in mind that payouts won't be processed until your banking details are on file.

I connected Square to Brushfire but my events aren't processing payments. What's wrong?

Connecting Square to Brushfire is only the first step. You also need to edit the Payment Methods configuration on each individual event to link it to the gateway. Check your event's settings to confirm this has been done.

My country isn't listed in the supported countries. What are my options?

Square is currently only available in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, and Australia. If you're outside those countries, Stripe may be a better fit. See the Payment Gateways guide for more on Stripe and the currencies it supports.

What does "allow Brushfire to access your Square account" mean?

This step authorizes Brushfire to process transactions through your Square account on your behalf. It's a standard OAuth authorization — Brushfire cannot access your Square account for any purpose other than processing payments for your events.
