Brushfire fully integrates and offers support for three different pieces of Square Hardware:
- Reader — These offer the best portability at the most affordable price. They are great to use with tablets or phones in situations without a fixed counter space or point of sale location. Please note that these can only be used with the Brushfire Mobile app, and can connect to your device using Bluetooth.
- Stand — These are best for table or counter kiosks or Point of Sale that are stationary, but simple. They are convenient for environments without a lot of space. Stands, too, can only be used with the Brushfire Mobile app. They connect directly to your iPad using Lightning or USB-C.
- Terminal — These offer the most flexibility as they can be used with Brushfire on the web from any device or the Brushfire Mobile app. These connect via wifi.
In this article, learn how to connect your Square Terminal to your Brushfire Account and how to use it at Checkout when in a Web Browser and when in the Mobile App.
Web Browser: Connect Your Square Terminal to Your Brushfire Account
Follow these simple steps below. We have also included a video to visually walk you through it as well.
- Proceed to the Payment Gateways section of your dashboard and click on the edit pencil for the Square gateway that you want to connect.
- Scroll down to the Terminal Devices section and click on the Pair Terminal button to generate a New Device Code.
- Sign in with Square on your Square Terminal by selecting Use a Device Code and entering the device code from your Brushfire account. Then select the Sign In button.
- Your Square Terminal is successfully paired to your Brushfire account when the "Paired" message appears. Next to the Paired message is the serial number of the paired device.
- Within this Brushfire Screen, you will see a running list of all devices paired to your account displayed by the Serial Number of the Device and the Device Code given when you first paired it. That way, if you ever need to re-pair a terminal due to being signed out or reset, the code needed to sign in will be visible here.
Web Browser: Use Your Square Terminal at Checkout
Follow these steps and/or watch the video to see how it works
- In Brushfire, make sure you are in Point of Sale checkout mode. If you're printing tickets on demand, select Point of Sale as the delivery method as well.
- From the payment details dropdown, select Square Terminal as your payment method.
- Select the terminal you using from the list provided in the dropdown.
- If you need to confirm that your terminal is in the list, compare the serial number in the list to the serial number on the bottom of your Square Terminal.
- Click the "Place Order" button in Brushfire to prompt the attendee for payment on the Square Terminal.
- The attendee can then use Apple Pay, Google Pay, a contactless card, or a card with a chip to complete the payment through the terminal.
- Once the payment has been completed using the Square Terminal (will display "Approved" on the screen), your order will be placed, and you will see a confirmation on the Brushfire screen.
Mobile App: Connect Your Square Terminal to Your Brushfire Account
Follow these simple steps below once you have determined if you want to be in Manned Mode or Self-Service Kiosk Mode. Open your Mobile App and Navigate through these screens, depending on which mode, to accept payments on the device:
Only two selection need to be made for Manned Mode:
And three selections in Self-Service Kiosk Mode:
Once you have selected yes to accept payments on the device, follow these steps:
- If you have multiple Brushfire accounts, choose one. Otherwise, the app will bypass this step.
- Choose a payment gateway if multiple options are available; otherwise, the app automatically bypasses this step as well.
- Next, you will be prompted to choose your Payment Hardware. Select “Square Terminal.”
- If a terminal is already paired, it will show up here. The first number is the serial number. This number can be found on the back of the Square device. The second number is the pairing code used to sign in. If it matches the number on the Square device, select it.
- To pair a new terminal, press "+ Add New Terminal." If you have nothing paired, you will not see this screen.
- Type the code that is displayed (sample displayed as THBXRF) into a Square Terminal to pair device: Sign in → Use a device code → Enter the device code on the Square Terminal to complete paring.
- The screen will then display a green check mark and say “Connected!"
- Then, the screen will ask what Print Option you want. After you select, it will tell you "Set Up Complete!"
Mobile App: Use Your Square Terminal at Checkout
To use your Square Terminal at checkout, follow these steps:
- In Brushfire, search and choose from your event list which one you want Attendees to register or buy tickets for.
- The Attendee will select Register Now, and be prompted through the process of selecting the right Ticket or Registration Type.
- Once on the Cart Screen, the attendee will select "Checkout."
- On the next screen, they will fill out all Billing Fields. A small green check will display next to the Payment Type: Card field to indicate it is ready to take payment on the terminal.
- Now, the Attendee must click the "Submit" button FIRST to prompt the system for payment on the Square Terminal.
- The attendee can then use Apple Pay, Google Pay, a contactless card, or a card with a chip to complete the payment through the terminal.
- Once the payment has been completed using the Square Terminal (which will display "Approved" on the screen), your order will be placed, and you will see a confirmation on the Brushfire screen.
